Introduction To The Artist: Diana Colgate
My interest in art began when as a child an artist by the name of Butler Wilson came to live with us. I would spend hours watching him paint. My first opportunity to pursue a career in art began with commercial art classes in high school. Then came marriage to my best friend, Jack, and the birth of our daughter, Shannah.
Upon returning to school and earning a degree in Interior Design, I worked with other designers customizing furniture, floor cloths, and murals. Deciding I would now take time to paint for my own enjoyment, I studied fine art privately with a wonderful artist and teacher, LaVerne Arkenberg. Following in her footsteps, I now teach at my own studio in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
Although pastels are my medium of choice, I also enjoy work in watercolor, oils, and pencil. My favorite subjects are portraits, landscapes, doorways, and porches.
For me, art is a wonderful way to express my love of life, home, and family. I thank God for blessing me with this life. I wouldn't change a thing!
I have had the opportunity to study under such talented artists as: LaVerne Arkenberg, Marianna McDonald, David Dale, and Mitchell Tolle. They have all had a great influence on my work.
